Qambathi Mountain Lodge is a naturalist’s paradise set in the Drakensberg foothills. The gardens and reserve alone boasts nearly 50 species of birds. Much of its charm lies in its use of indigenous plants, and in the way informal corners are allowed to regenerate naturally. Much of the landscape is grassland, noted for its spring flowers, where mountain reedbuck, Blesbok, Oribi, Bushbuck, Zebra and troops of baboons live. This is cisticola country, where listening skills are tested.

Suitable for both complete beginners and for those who know a lot more. Although birds get the greatest emphasis, trees, flowers, geology and anything else in the countryside gets due attention.

Your Guide, ‘Craig is an ecologist with a passion for nature and wildlife. He has been an avid birder since the age of five and recently completed his Birding Big Year with his wife and two children (ages 3 and 5). Craig and his family managed to see 702 bird species in South Africa during 2021.’

Best to bring your own, good pair of Binoculars.

Only 10 spots available so book now to avoid disappointment.
